76 días en huelga de hambre

A la opinión pública nacional e internacional, a nuestro pueblo nación mapuche, a nuestras autoridades tradicionales mapuche, al pueblo no mapuche que resiste y lucha, a todos los pueblos originarios del mundo comunicamos lo siguiente:

Frente a los dichos del director del Hospital Cristian Araneda y del médico Roberto Uturriaga que salieron a realizar vocería de parte de la Seremi de Salud, quienes desestimaron la gravedad del estado de salud de nuestra autoridad ancestral Machi Celestino Córdova, quienes sostuvieron que esta en “buen estado en general, hidratado, perfundido, orientado en tiempo y espacio y en buenas condiciones en general. Y que se descarta el riesgo vital según evaluación clínica una mala evolución en el futuro”

Kiñe: Claramente dichos funcionarios han sido mandatados de parte del Gobierno para bajar el perfil y colocar paños fríos respecto al real estado de salud de nuestro Machi Celestino y una respuesta torpe y engañosa de las autoridades de gobierno frente a la amplia reacción de apoyo a nivel nacional e internacional que generó la salida de urgencia de nuestra autoridad hacia el hospital. Hoy el gobierno debería estar dando las gracias a las alertas y alarmas que han puesto tanto la médica de cabecera Leonor Olate como así mismo, el Colegio Médico frente a esta situación ya que de no ser trasladado de urgencia otra historia podríamos estar escribiendo ahora.

Epu: Sorprende que se plantee una situación de salud del machi “estable” y sin mayores inconvenientes, si tuvo que solicitarse y ejecutarse su traslado al hospital de imperial desde la cárcel. Sus signos vitales se presentan alterados hace MESES, incluidos los latidos de su corazón, y su presión arterial, información que es publica y que medicamente sabemos que puede generar complicaciones cardiovasculares y renales graves (y acelerarse de producirse huelga seca). Se omiten los episodios de sangrado interno que tuvo nuestro Machi Celestino, situación que es GRAVISIMA en su contexto de ayuno, que pudiera significar una ulcera gástrica o duodenal (que puede perforarse o que pudiera producir necrosis, o muerte de parte de su colon), situacion que no podemos OBJETIVAR CON CERTEZA y decir livianamente que nuestro machi se encuentra en BUENAS condiciones sino se han realizado los exámenes pertinentes (y no se pueden realizar en el contexto de que TRANSGREDEN GRAVEMENTE SU SER COMO AUTORIDAD ANCESTRAL MACHI). Desconocemos por lo tanto la situación visceral interna del machi, por lo que resulta al menos liviano y poco responsable plantearse en esos términos (de que el machi Celestino estaría “bien”), además de que desconocemos su estado nutricional mas interno (proteínas, albumina) también su función renal, hepática, electrolitos (exámenes de sangre), cuestiones que por su rol de machi y autoridad ancestral, además de su autonomía como paciente resulta imposible de objetivar sin TRANSGREDIR gravemente sus derechos como persona, autoridad ancestral y agravar aún más su situación actual.

Kula: El miércoles al ingresar al hospital, se le colocó viadil vía intravenosa para ayudar a calmar los fuertes dolores que tenía hasta ese momento. Y hoy a 76 días de huelga de hambre continúa ingiriendo solo agua y lawen vía oral. No encontrándose perfundido en ningún momento. El hecho de estar en una sala común no quiere decir que nuestro lamngen Machi no se encuentre en estado crítico. La gravedad de su estado está plenamente documentada ya sea por la médica funcionaria del hospital que lo evaluó a su llegada, tanto por la médica de cabecera y tanto por las profesionales del Colegio Médico que así lo confirman. Su estado es de riesgo vital latente, en cualquier momento puede hacer un paro cardiaco ya que su frecuencia cardiaca actual es de 40 a 41 pulsaciones por minuto, el azúcar en la sangre está muy baja por lo que puede irse en el sueño.

Meli: La médica, Leonor Olate, tiene toda la confianza de nuestro lamngen Machi, familia y vocería. Y cuenta con la autorización para poder transmitir sus diagnósticos y estado de salud por las vías que estimemos conveniente.

Kechu: Finalmente, endosamos toda la responsabilidad al Estado de Chile y gobierno de turno respecto del estado de salud y la vida de nuestra autoridad ancestral Machi Celestino Córdova. Y llamamos al gobierno a dar una solución definitiva a esta situación y dejar de dilatarla ante comisiones y reuniones que no resuelven nada. Ante la inminencia del inicio de una huelga de hambre seca a inicios de la próxima semana.

Kayu: Llamamos a toda nuestra gente a estar alertas y hacemos el recordatorio de que esta huelga de hambre es de carácter espiritual, ya que fue mandata por nuestros pu lonko debido a la condición de autoridad ancestral espiritual de nuestro pueblo nación-mapuche del Machi Celestino, llamamos a poner en su llellipun a nuestro lamngen Machi. Y les recordamos a todas las comunidades en resistencia y pueblo nación mapuche que hay una autoridad ancestral espiritual encarcelada y que todos los presos políticos mapuche son parte de la lucha y que la cárcel también es un lugar de resistencia y lucha. Por tanto el llamado es a actuar en consecuencia.

76 Days on Hunger Strike

To the national and international public, to our Mapuche people-nation, to our Mapuche traditional authorities, to the non-Mapuche people who resist and struggle, to all of the Indigenous people in the world, we communicate the following:

We want to respond to what is being said by the Hospital Director, Christian Araneda, and the lead Doctor, Roberto Uturriaga, who speaking on behalf of the Regional Health Secretary, dismissed the seriousness of the state of health of our ancestral authority, Machi Celestino Córdova. The director and doctor sustained that our Machi is “generally in good health, hydrated, oriented in time and space, and in good condition in general. Vital risk is ruled out following clinical evaluation and assuming his condition doesn’t negatively evolve in the future.”

Kiñe: Clearly these functionaries have been ordered by the government to downplay the real health situation of our Machi Celestino. This is a clumsy and deceitful response by government authorities amidst widespread national and international shows of solidarity which forced our authority to be taken to the hospital in the first place. Today the government should be giving thanks to the warnings given both by the family doctor, Leonor Olate, and the Medical Association. If the Machi hadn’t been urgently transferred, things could be drastically different now.

Epu: It is surprising that they’ve suggested the Machi’s health is “stable” and not serious. If so, then why did his transfer to the hospital have to take place. His vital signs have been altered for MONTHS, including his heartbeat and his blood pressure. This is public information and we know medically that this can generate serious cardiovascular and renal complications (and things can only get worse if he goes on a dry hunger strike). They omitted the episodes of internal bleeding that our Machi Celestino has had, a situation that is VERY SERIOUS in the context of a hunger strike. The internal bleeding could mean a gastric or duodenal ulcer (which can perforate or produce necrosis, or death). Thus, we cannot say with certainty that our Machi is in good condition if the pertinent exams have not been carried out. Neither can they be carried out considering they seriously violate the Machi’s being as a spiritual authority. We therefore do not know the health of Machi’s internal organs. It is irresponsible to say that Machi Celestino will be fine when we do not know his nutritional status (protein, albumin) or his renal and liver function, electrolytes (blood tests), etc. These studies are impossible to carry out because of the Machi’s role as an ancestral authority, and furthermore because of his autonomy as a patient. This can only be done by seriously VIOALATING his rights as a person, ancestral authority and further aggravating his current health situation.

Kula: On Wednesday, when he was admitted to the hospital, he was given an IV to help deal the pain. Today, 76 days on hunger strike, he continues consuming only water and lawen (a medicinal herb). He has not been tube fed at any time. The fact that our Lamngen Machi is in a common area of the hospital does not mean that he is not in critical condition. The severity of his health is clearly documented by the hospital official who evaluated him upon his arrival, by the family doctor, as well as the professionals of the medical association. His is at vital risk. At whatever moment he could have a heart attack. His current heart rate is 40 to 41 beats per minute, the sugar in his blood is very low.

Meli: The doctor, Leonor Olate, has the confidence of our Lamngen Machi, family and spokesperson. She has authorization to transmit her diagnosis and health reports to us in a manner that we deem adequate.

Kechu: Finally, we hold responsible the Chilean State and current government for the health and life of our ancestral authority, Machi Celestino Córdova. We call on the government to give a definite solution to this situation and to stop delaying action in commissions and reunions that don’t resolve anything. This is particularly important now, in light of the immanent dry strike, which is likely to begin next week.

Kayu: We call on our people to be alert and we remind everyone that this hunger strike is of spiritual character. It was mandated by our pu lonko. Due to the condition of the ancestral spiritual authority, Machi Celestino, we call on you all to carry out a llellipun for our lamngen Machi. We remind all the communities in resistance and the Mapuche people-nation that there is an ancestral spiritual authority imprisoned and that all of the Mapuche political prisoners are part of the struggle. Prison is also a place of resistance and struggle. The call is to act accordingly.
